So here’s the thing(s).
We talk a lot about moments here at Garnish. Why you ask? Because life is full of them. They’re everywhere. Even when you don’t think they are, they’re there. In some little (or big) way, someone smiled, laughed, cried (we’d like to think happy tears), hugged, chuckled…got that warm and fuzzy feeling. That’s a moment. That’s what life is. We believe in Garnishing them, or better yet, creating them. And the best thing is it really is so easy, to take simple and make it a moment. Something to be remembered. Something to write home about (or email, Facebook, or Tweet). Something!
Here’s the other thing. I greatly admire teachers. And an inspiring, creative teacher is a moment in itself. My eldest has one of these teachers (well actually, they all do). As an incentive program for the children she started Bowes Bucks. Students have chances to earn dollars (Monopoly $$) throughout the time frame. For going the extra step on papers and tests. Behavior in class. You get the idea. At the end, there would be an auction. Parents, as well as she, contributed little prizes and the students would be able to bid on them with their monies earned. Great fun. And let’s face it, money tends to have a big voice with 5th graders!
My point, because hallelujah there is one, I thought it would be fun to add to this moment with a little snack for the auction. You need your energy when bidding on trinkets galore. I saw this idea last year and have been waiting for an opportunity to re-create and alas, it was here. Super easy and quick to do…love any project that just requires assembly line set up.
Cut fruit – cut cheese (stop smirking) – place in round hinged container (which snaps close super tight) – add a label (thanks Fred) – pack cooler – out the door.
Their moment – the teacher and kids were thrilled for such an unexpected surprise (included fizzy fruit drinks and paper straws)
I heard the bidding was competitive. Those 5th graders can be tough.
My moment – the huge hug I received from the teacher (got that warm and fuzzy feeling).
Go on now. Garnish a moment. Create a moment. Package life’s moments.
Garnish + Enjoy

It’s that time of year. You know, that time. They’re everywhere, playing with our minds. All things diet and exercise, have us by our marionette strings. All things fresh and new, are the bow to our fiddle.
Well, I say…phoey to it all! Don’t get me wrong, I support a healthy lifestyle. But I don’t think that healthy needs to be boring. I believe in a little something called moderation my friends. Okay, well honestly it’s more like I’m hiding behind that word because I have zero will power. So for me, moderation is a necessity. But here’s the thing. I love to bake, especially with my children. I also love to fit into my skinny jeans (without having to spray my legs with Pam in order to slide them on). So my resolution. Bake when I feel like baking. Enjoy a little and share a bunch. I mean really, does my family need 2 dozen cookies (emphasis on the need, want they just might)?!
Here’s the how to. A small bio-pak container for a brownie dessert for the family next door. A simple white box (with a circle label explaining it all) for an elderly friend. A berry box in a cellophane bag for the teachers’ room or office break room. All perfect (and stylish) ways to share.
If you’re looking for something sweet to add to your baking repertoire try these Rolo cookies I found at This Week for Dinner which came from A Greatfull Day (have to give props where props are due!). They are beyond decadent and incredibly easy (and fun) to make.
Enjoy all that life has to offer. Do it with moderation. And add a little Garnish.
Garnish + Enjoy

Here’s a thought.
I found this picture here and it got me thinking. I was thinking about how much I love this whole concept of supper clubs. How much I love that people are gathering and enjoying good friends and good times. How much I love seeing Garnish in action.
Back to my thought. While this photo is from an Asian Persuasion evening, it triggered something in my noggin. Wouldn’t it be fun to serve spaghetti and meatballs in these rounded take out containers?! Just might add a fun saying to a round label too, or maybe my guests’ names. I mean seriously, doesn’t this just call out ‘unexpected fun!’? You may be saying ‘why?’ and I’m telling you…why the heck not?!! (more…)

This folks, is a great example of how to ‘package life’s moments’!
Today marks the 100th day of school and I was responsible for one of my little men’s class party. Now, yes, I could have thrown some cookies on a plate but there are two things about me you should know (if you have yet to figure out). One, I don’t want to just host a party, I want to create a moment. And two, it has to be easy…that’s why there’s Garnish! (more…)

Need I say more?!
Not only am I ‘head over heels’ with those I love, but I am with this idea too! So…this is what I’m thinking. A cupcake inside this white 4×4x4 box, with this square clear label and a little red and white twine. Presented to little dudes (okay, I’ll share with big dudes too) for a special dessert on Valentine’s Day. Oh my goodness the look that will be on their faces! I wonder how long it will take them to figure out the riddle? (more…)

Looking for a fun and creative way to send your guests off? I know I always am. Favors are so often considered as a ’special occasion only’ gift. But really, isn’t any time you surround yourself with your family of friends, a moment to be celebrated?! (more…)

So I’ve been sitting here for an embarrassingly long time with my “create new post” window open…the orange ‘publish post’ icon glaring at me like some Big Brother eye saying “hurry up lady and Get It Done!”. But here’s my problem…I’m stuck. My brain is locked, the creative juices have run dry and it’s as if my fingers have forgotten how to move across my keyboard. (more…)

Life is hectic. Our worlds move fast, too fast. I wish at times that I could have that magical remote control portrayed on the silver screen in order to hit pause for a moment to take a deep breath and recharge.
Well, that ain’t gonna happen my friends! So it’s time to put on our big girl panties and take matters into our own hands! The spa is a glorious sanctuary but it’s not always a feasible solution. Share a bit of heaven with your girls (or guys) by treating them to a little in-home soak. (more…)
